Abstract: To study urinary proteins electrophoretically, a highly sensitive silver staining method was applied to urinary protein fractions separated by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. With this method, urine specimens from normal human subjects containing about 10mg of protein/dl could be separated into 25 protein bands without any pretreatment. Proteins having molecular weights from 230,000 to 17,000 were included in these bands. Five protein bands with molecular weights of 170,000, 74,000, 68,000 49,000 and 40,000 were present in all of the 4 urine specimens from normal human subjects. The protein bands with molecular weights of 170,000, 68,000 were identified by the immunoblotting technique as IgG and albumin, respectively.
