Objective : To review the current status of breast cancer medical examinations in Gunma prefecture and compare breast cancer screening in Japan and other countries, and develop a proposal to increase the number of participants in breast cancer screening. Methods : A review of participation rates in breast cancer screening programs and breast cancer screening systems in the USA and the UK and an investigation of the breast cancer trend in Japan were performed. In addition, the current situation of breast cancer screening in all areas of Gunma prefecture was investigated. Results : A large variation in screening programs was observed in many areas, including cities and villages. However, the rate of participation in breast cancer screening programs was very low (24.4%). It did not reach the target rate of 50% that may be required to improve breast cancer detection. Conclusions : In breast cancer found at an early stage, the survival rate is expected to be high. It is important to improve breast cancer screening so that many women can participate easily in the program. It may be useful to expand the educational program that stresses the need for breast cancer screening.
