Abstract: We have developed an electron-spectrometer system designed for Auger-pholoelectron coindence speclroscopy (APECS) in solids. The system consists of two hemispherical analyzers with specially designed electron-zoom lenses, an x-ray source, and an electron gun mounted on an ultrahigh vacuum chamber. The two analyzer-lens systems are made of titanium to reduce the work function variations due to inhomogeneous oxidation. Because of the small area (~ 1 X 1mm) selected by the electron lenses and the long measuring times, special care has been taken to shield out all stray and time-dependent magnetic Fields. In this paper, we present the details of the system and its performance.
