The purpose of this research is to clarify the significance of the method that does not rely on medical records. The research was conducted with 79 students in the third-year of the psychiatric nursing practicum of our university. Description of the students in interview paper concerning conducting the method which does not rely on medical records were analyzed using the Berelson's content analysis method. As the result of analysis, 5 categories were formed. The following were indicated as significant of the method which does not rely on medical records: 1) Students' independence may be increased. 2) An ability to face the subject as a human without prejudice. 3) Able to make full use of communication. 4) An ability to use medical records are to gather an understanding of the information obtained. 5) Increase stress and create anxiety for students. It is suggested that individualized instruction, depending on the students' readiness, is necessary for students who cannot increase their own independency.
